“When I showed up to this wedding I knew one thing; this group was here to party and celebrate a wedding.” –Mark
Mark recently shot Nichoel and George’s Nightmare Before Christmas themed wedding at Flinn Block Hall located at 222 First Avenue West, Albany, OR 97321. Set in Albany’s Downtown Historic District, Flinn Block Hall boasts of all the little details an Oregon wedding photographer could hope for – and all the amenities and flare a bride and groom want for their destination wedding. Original restored fir floors and the building’s 100 year old brick throughout provided the perfect backdrop to capture the couple’s unique style. As a photographer herself, Nichoel had a pretty good idea of what she wanted her wedding photography to be, and liking his work, trusted Mark to deliver.
It’s important when shooting a destination wedding to know what challenges a venue might throw at the photographer. Mark and the bride looked at previous Flinn Block Hall wedding photography to preview the venues visual strengths and challenges. Here lighting was going to be key. Mark used the buildings natural light in combination with lights provided by the venue and his own lights to get the lighting just right to showcase the venues stunning architecture and detail, but more importantly the amazing energy evident in every aspect of this wedding.
The couple’s Nightmare Before Christmas theme was spectacular. Mark says Nichoel and George had some of the best handouts and graphic design concepts he’s seen at any of his weddings!
These shots really demonstrate the once-in-a-lifetime moments photographers are lucky enough to capture. Mark just happened to be walking by this room at the right time, where a few of the bridesmaids were gathering up all the balloons. Instinct kicked in and he laid down on the floor with his Nikon to get these awesome shots!
As an Oregon wedding photographer Mark gets to shoot some beautiful outdoor venues but Flinn Block provided a wonderfully rare and unique opportunity to photograph a stunningly preserved historic indoor venue. The exposed brick and ornate moulding were some of Mark’s favorite details.
Another priceless moment captured, this little girl walked right up during the middle of the ceremony to steal the show! The laid back couple and their friends and family just laughed and enjoyed the moment! Check her out in the shots below!
Mark couldn’t say it enough – this couple was so much fun and it was evident throughout the entire wedding. The attendants made their entrance dancing and strutting into the room. Mark caught one of the groomsmen on film as he slid into the room!
